If you purchase from a dealer, make sure the dealer has a good reputation for selling properly reconditioned used cars.
If the vehicle is a one-owner, talk to the previous owner, if possible. But this may not always be possible. If not, don?t worry.
Look at an Auto Check or CarFax report, which shows the vehicle?s history. Look for collision damage. Very minor damage is not always bad.
Inspect the vehicle thoroughly inside and out. Look for dents, scratches or rust on the outside. Inspect for odors (smoke, pets) on the inside.
Make sure all controls (gauges, air, heat, sunroof, power options) work properly.
Ask to see an inspection sheet that shows what was done to get it ready for the next owner. Brakes, shocks, filters, fluids, etc . . .
Expect to pay more for premium used vehicles.
Don?t hesitate to take the vehicle to your own mechanic or have it put up on a lift at the dealership for your inspection.
