How to Buy a Used Car

Uftring Weston Chevrolet Cadillac | Tips on How to Buy a Used Car | Gary Uftring

  • If you purchase from a dealer, make sure the dealer has a good reputation for selling properly reconditioned used cars.
  • If the vehicle is a one-owner, talk to the previous owner, if possible. But this may not always be possible. If not, don?t worry.
  • Look at an Auto Check or CarFax report, which shows the vehicle?s history. Look for collision damage. Very minor damage is not always bad.
  • Inspect the vehicle thoroughly inside and out. Look for dents, scratches or rust on the outside. Inspect for odors (smoke, pets) on the inside.
  • Make sure all controls (gauges, air, heat, sunroof, power options) work properly.
  • Ask to see an inspection sheet that shows what was done to get it ready for the next owner. Brakes, shocks, filters, fluids, etc . . .
  • Expect to pay more for premium used vehicles.
  • Don?t hesitate to take the vehicle to your own mechanic or have it put up on a lift at the dealership for your inspection.
